1000rpm is OK, if it sounds happy and no flame outs when you start to open the throttle.
Wattman, that sells the Thermo-Bob even drops to 900 rpm to save gas.
One of the issues with too low of idle speed can be voltage drop, so I prefer 1200-1300 rpm. One can see the difference with the headlight shining on a wall. And then the fan kicks on, headlight dims some more!
