Options and pictures sought - ZG Double Bubble clear or smoke?

I've ordered the KLRDash for my 2013 green model.

While I like the blacked out look of the bike, I'm also a traditionalist, a major vintage bike enthusiast and firmly believe in function over form.

So - I'm leaning toward the clear screen but thought I'd solicit opinions first.

They're not easy to find from Canadian retailers. Only clear one so far has the vinyl mask on it which I don't see a a problem given the steel plate on the KLRDash.

The dark smoke looks cool and plays into the blacked out look but I don't want it to look like a sport bike and am concerned about visibility immediately in front of the bike.

Anyone have opinions?

I have the KLR dash and went with the ZG smoked screen. I found the screen to be a bit dark and tall for my liking. Was fine on the pavement and leisurely dirt roads but once i got into more technical terrain it was a bother. Fortunately it cracked on a fall during a very rocky climb (odd to say fortunately) and I went the remainder of the week without a wind screen and loved it. I put the stock screen on the klr dash and am very happy. The aesthetics leave something to be desired, but so do the aesthetics on the rest of my bike!

Would love to see a pic of the stock screen on the KLRDash.

In all honesty, I much much prefer the 'look' of the pre-2008 KLR, but I wasn't looking for another 'old' bike for my garage. I have too many of those already. The 2013 is my newest bike by 40 years.

I also wanted something I could ostensibly ride for a few hundred miles in a day, and plan to do so in May riding from Toronto to the Red River Gorge in Kentucky. The later model seemed somehow more suited to that.

Anyhow - I have both the dark smoke and clear (w vinyl mask) on order from FortNine here in Canada. I'll have a look at both and see which I prefer, but I'm leaning towards clear. I've heard not great things about the smoke at night, and I'd like to have unobstructed views.

I will say the dark smoke looks integrated well, and of course nicely hides the mounting/wiring that might be going on behind the KLRDash. So we'll see.

I've ridden many thousands of miles without any windscreen (1975 BMW R75/6) but I'm getting older and there's no good reason to have wind buffeting / rain etc. hammer me on the interstate and cut perhaps 100-200 miles off my daily tolerance.

Here are some pictures....realized I didn't have many good ones of the ZG screen. You can see how tall the ZG screen is compared to the stock. A friend has the stock screen on his klr dash and did some shaving off the bottom of the screen to remove the slots and make it a more finished appearance.

Much appreciated! The stock screen pics give me a good idea of how the clear ZG w vinyl will look.
