Doing my own 7500 mile maintenance.

This weekend I'm going to do the maintenance of 7500 miles to my KLR (Domitila). I was thinking that removing the fuel tank would be a problem, but I saw a video and it seems easy. On this topic if someone has a call or situation that can be presented I would like to know. I will also adjust the chain balancertension. I have seen several videos of the procedure On this subject some recommend loosen the screw half turn, the manual speaks of some turns. What are the critical actions in this. I wonder. How many turns and what does your experience say. Thank you in advance for the answer.

You have to be careful with the balancer tensioner!!! This is the Infamous Dohickey!!! If it hasn't been upgraded be careful to verify that the springs are still in place and actually have tension. They seem to be 50/50 at best!

HVYMAX. The day will come when I will remove the lid to check. For now I only adjust according to the manual.
And you're right, the owners of KLR must be very aware of that infamous part. Thanks for the warning.

I'm going to buy a torque wrench. In some thread someone gave the information on the specifications of the wrench. I can not find it. Please kindly colleague KLR to illustrate me about this.

I just adjusted the tensioner on mine at 1000 miles because I was hearing some ticking I wasn't sure was normal or not. Turns out it is. After adjusting, nothing exploded...the tick is still there...and the bike runs great.

Having been inside the left engine cover and seen the length of threads on the adjuster bolt, I loosen the adjuster bolt two turns and then tap on the end of it with a wrench to jar the doohickey loose from the bolt in case it is in a bind. This has worked well for me many times.

Finally take advantage of the Holy Week days to carry out the maintenance. All perfect, spark plug change and also adjust the chain balancertension and other works that says in the manual. I think I should get a better place to put the bike at the time of maintenance. I was uncomfortable being crouched. I have been seeing some stands on the web to lift the bike during maintenance. I wonder if there is a way to make a stand without having to buy the ones they offer or some idea about it. I only have one bike and I do not think I should spend a lot of money buying one that I will underutilize.

I made a simple little platform for my floor jack. Placing it forward lifts the front, further back lifts the rear. See the photos in the link.

Finally I bought a floor jack and I remembered your platform model for the jack. When I came to the thread to see the photos of your platform, the link that you sent with the photos tells me that the photos are not found. Can you send them again if possible? Thanks in advance. I like simple things and your idea seemed good and simple to build.
