Gas overflowing from gas cap?

I have a 2016 klr and upon start up gas starts to overflow from the gas cap. No matter the fuel level it does it for a couple seconds then stops. Any ideas?

Mis-routed hoses on the vapor recovery system? Maybe if the two hoses that connect to the tank (under the seat) are switched? I don't really know, I'm just guessing based on how that system is "supposed" to work.

Very good possibility on that idea Bluehighways, at least if the bike is a CA approved model with the evap emissions plumbing.

Now you need to suggest that Rider24 over on .net check his float bowl service Fuel Height. The shop who he had work on his carb may have adjusted the float height with the carb completely Up-Side Down. Which as you know compresses the cushion spring and almost terminates proper float Drop.

I would if I could, but I stomped on Glenns toes again awhile back.

I'll check it out this weekend and get back. I'm not 100%sure if it's a California bike. I got it from a dealer that got it from auction. It's now registered in California with me but not sure of it's origins. I Just got it a couple weeks ago.

If there is a big black rectangular steel can on the Left rear side, it IS a CA model.

If there are two nipples for hoses on the back of the fuel tank, under the seat tongue the fuel tank is/was for a CA model.

On a side note, I see everyone has their location under their profile pic. I can't figure out how to do that. Any help there too?
