For some reason i can not find a way to order new rubber boots/ mounts for my turn signals. Any suggestions. Gorilla tape only holds so long. Any fix ideas would be appreciated.

Don't think you can order those seperately. You didn't say the year of bike. I believe you need to buy the entire signal. There are some inexpensive signals avaialble for the KLR other than replacing with OEM>

RE: Turn Signal Boots

As klr4evr said, I'm pretty sure you got to buy the entire signal. My Gen1 had the same issue. It's some crappy elastomer they use (probably a mix of all the rubber compounds) and use it for the turn signals.

Bike Master sells Gen1 turn signals from $15 to something like $25 a signal. I'm not sure if they're the same for Gen2's, but ignore the "left" and "right" designations. They're totally interchangeable

early Gen2's were notorious for rotting rubber. No replacement of just the rubber AFAIK; if you want stock, it's the dealer for new stuff or Ebay and the like for used. ....there are tons of aftermarket LED setups but I've never found it to be worth the bother and most aren't as bright as stock. My suggestion would be to pick up a used pair on Ebay and hope they are from a 2010+

That sounds expensive to me. I would shop around. Should get a pair for less than that.

That's why Forums are such great things - especially this one.

My 2004 still has the original signals. Hard to wear out.

No recall on the boots, no good response from Kawaski

My 2011 has no recalls on it according to Kawasaki's website. And when I emailed them about this, they replied with this. Since they aren't willing to fix provide replacements, I'll be reinforcing them with a splint of some sort, and a lot of tape. Hope that passes inspection.

Adam,

Thank you for contacting Kawasaki Motors Corp. U.S.A.

This VIN you provided does not have any recalls. If you a concern with the unit please contact your dealer to schedule an inspection.

Feedback: Hi, I’ve heard there was a recall on turn signal rubber boots for the KLR-650, but I put my VIN in to your site and nothing came up. Mine is a 2011, and three out of four boots have rotted apart. Why is my bike not part of the recall? Clearly they are defective, as they should not have rotted away so soon. The bike is garage kept. Please consider replacing these for me as I am not interested in buying all new turn signals at full retail when the part should not have failed. My VIN is JKAKLEE1XBDA34566. I bought the bike brand new in 2011, original owner. Thanks for your time.

It appears that the wrong rubber compound was used on three of your stalks. I suspect something like Buna, was used for the rubber, which degrades rapidly in the presence of UV. Viton is a much better compound for this application, but perhaps too expensive?

My 2012 KLR has the original stalks and thankfully they show no signs of degradation, yet.

Perhaps you should show the stalks to the Kawasaki dealer, per the suggestion from the Customer Care Specialist.

FATNBLD,
The factory Recall on turn signal rubber/plastic stems pertained to 2008 & 2009 models Only.

Jeeze a 9 year old bike. Even if you had purchased the 48 month extended warranty it would be expired by now.

The 3dcycleparts $20 kit may be right up your alley.

Electric motors from refrigerators, freezers, & furnaces in a garage setting can give off ozone, which is bad for rubber & plastic parts.
Paints, varnishes, thinners, fuels left open or drying in same area can be bad for rubber & plastics.

Yes, my shop used to be a Kawasaki dealership.

Yes, I'm aware that your shop used to be a Kawasaki dealership. Actually, I thought it still was.

But my thoughts about FTNBLD showing the stalks to a Kawasaki dealership, preferably one where he bought the bike and had service work done, is that they may be inclined to replace the defective stalks based on "goodwill" or perhaps offer a discount for their replacement.
