PVC mod

So I went down today and got the Mercedes Benz valve that was specified in other posts. I put it in and just went for a ride. It seemed good at first, probably because I was driving a really slow car all day. About 2 miles I to my ride I noticed my rear brakes were not working, then my left foot kept sliding off the foot rest. Looked down and the entire left side of the engine and my boot is covered in oil. Is there a chance if I put the valve in backwards it would create enough crankcase pressure to push that much oil out past the seals? the bike is a 2016 with 5,000 miles on it and has been very well maintained. Had no previous issues with anything on it until I did the mod today. Any thoughts? I'm going to degrease the engine tomorrow and check the air flow direction.

I just checked and the valve was indeed in backwards. I cleaned the bike off, put a new hose in place and started it. I noticed an air leak from the top end. Checked it out and the very top gasket on the head is blown and with in seconds it started leaking oil. Is that a hard fix?

Don't listen to pdwestman, Ftorr650! Everyone knows, the PCV Valve Mod gives additional power, better fuel mileage, reduced oil usage, enhanced ring seating, and several other benefits I forgot! :)

Just kidding; he's right, as usual.

If you have a valve cover gasket leak, I think a fix lies within your grasp.

So I don’t need to do the pcv mod on my new 18 model? Was this a patch repair on the oil burners?
The pcv mod a waste of time, effort and a perfectly good vent hose. IMHO.
Agreed; the answer to a question that nobody asked!
Yet . . . at the TIME OF THE OIL BURNING (2008-2009 model release), profoundly wise and eminently knowledgeable KLR gurus opined: Excess oil consumption was a consequence of NO PCV VALVE MOD!

A bonus; additional power, improved fuel mileage, enhanced ring seating, etc., all accrued as benefits of the PCV valve mod.

Reminds me of a story! From, The Eyelids of Morning (by Peter Beard), African natives were harvesting crocodiles from a lake. The Turkana (sp?) would only eat certain crocodiles they selected from their haul (the Africans insisted the distinction between edible and inedible crocodiles was NOT a close call; rather, obvious to Turkana (although indistinguishable to the foreign visitors)). Once, secretly, Peter Beard and his confederates SWITCHED all the pre-selected carcasses. The Turkana ate all the "wrong" crocodiles, without noticing . . .

:)

CAVEAT: Switching crocodiles not recommended. The Turkana might demonstrate other uses of their knives, besides skinning and butchering CROCODILES!

No pictures, but . . . I attended a motorcycle safety class a couple of weekends ago (my KLR690 the only true dual-sport/adventure bike in the pack; the rest were cruisers, mostly Harley Hogs or Harley Hog wannabes).

Anyhow, one of the huge V-twin cruisers had a seat cover with amphibian grain; didn't ask whether it was alligator/crocodile/caiman.

Kind of "lumpy" I'd think!
The "blocks" of the skin stood out prominently, but the seat was large in area--doubt the grain presented any discomfort to the rider.

"Pro-Rider" class; I'm on the far right:
