LED running lights on Bark Busters

The mods never end. Set up the white LED lights on the Barkbusters, and now it's time to wire them in. Thought I would tap into a hot wire coming from the left handlebar wiring (horn, signals, headlight). Horn seems to make the most sense. Anyone know which colour wire that would be ?

I think I have a schematic somewhere.

Black and a black with a yellow tracer for a 2009. I seem to recognize all those colours in there.

Probably simplest to just run a wire from either the brake light or license plate light

Brown is the primary Keyed hot wire to use on a Kawasaki.

Thanks PD. Who woulda thunk that a black wire would be a ground ?

Squidly, the wiring is all up front and right there along the left side of the handlebar. Makes sense to me to dive in there. I've unwrapped the sheathing; just need to tap in and then re-package it all.

I will post some pics. I must say, that you DO need to read the instruction a few times. I forgot to put the inner cover pieces on, but the bloody holes don't line up anyway !!

The schematic I had was from a 1995 KLR (!!!), so thanks again PD for that info.

In vehicular wiring (and DC electronics), black and yellow are the colors used for ground. In the case of the KLR, the common ground bus is Black/Yellow, while activated grounds are black or black and a secondary strip of another color.

Positive circuits are most commonly red or in the red spectrum, though the main 12V bus in the KLR is white, changing to brown after the ignition switch. Brown is arguably in the red spectrum.

There are some exceptions, such as the high beam circuit and the fan circuit, though the the black is a secondary stripe.

The only place I am aware of where black is positive is in AC wiring, such as house wiring.

Though not comprehensive, the attached can be handy.
