Valve Gap Setting Procedure - What to Watch For?

I'm thinking of setting my valves and I was wondering what kind of pitfalls people run into. Any tips/tricks/stories of disaster?

Be careful not to drop any of the cam cap locating dowels down the cam-chain tunnel.

Don't over-tighten the valve cover bolts. I tighten by feel and stop just as soon as the gasket stops compressing.

The job is actually pretty simple other than the aforementioned potential pitfalls.

The best thing to do in my opinion, is to only measure the clearance in Thousands of an inch! And write it down in this manner.
< .xxx inch, Has to be wiggled in / .xxx, Like Perfect, just a touch of drag / >.xxx, Kind of a sloppy fit.

Then all you have to remember is each shim size is .002 inch THICKER or THINNER!
