Symptom of what?

This is an OLD oily mess on top of the inner fender (doesn't seem to be a current issue). Any idea what did this? Oil/gas get into the airbox somehow and drip down? I've not yet gotten into the airbox for a look-see. I just recently removed the Vapor Recovery System and Air Induction System. So if the VRS created this mess, it's no longer an issue.

Do you NOT see the oilly nipple from the dirty side of the air filter box directly above the rear inner fender? Totally NORMAL. Or at least it should better be!

Lack of oil IN the foam air filter allows dust ingestion into the engine. Which causes excessive wear on parts, which causes excessive oil consumption!

If you don't like it, put a (another) drain hose on it!

It has a drain hose. So I guess this is either from before the previous owner installed the drain hose, or from something else.

The drain hose that you are seeing is forward of the Dirty Side drain nipple which is oiling your inner fender. And your existing clean side drain hose needs to capped, if it isn't!

yep, without seeing it, I'd guess it's foam filter oil residue from the dirty side airbox duckbill drain. if so, nothing to worry about.

There are TWO short duck bill (an inch long and squeezed closed at the end like a duck's bill) drains on the dirty air side of the air intake box. One is at the rear bottom of the filter box and the other over on the left side at the bottom of the intake box. They drain any oil or water that may get/drip into the intake system. The third is in the air box between the filter and the carburetor and has a longer drain line attached. As pdwestman pointed out the third Clean Air box vent should have a plug at the end to keep dirty air from being sucked into the carburetor. When new the clean side drain has a clear catch bulb in the line so you can see if any oil or water has accumulated and drain it out. Many of these bulbs get knocked off during any off road ridding. Make sure yours is plugged and check it periodically.
