Installed SW-Motech bars

I watch that noob video so got some good pointers there, but the instructions they sent was pretty easy to follow and did not take off gas tank, so if I can do it so can anyone else, and they look tough on the bike

Good job. Good choice. Yeah, they do look real solid and you will get plenty of positive comments from other riders. Of course, you personally will NEVER have to actually test them, right?

Others have done the testing for you and proved their value to the bike and rider in a spill.

You can do it without removing tank.
You can get away with removing rear plastic, seat, and removing bolts holding tank down, lift it and prop it up so you can access the upper subframe bolt location.
I removed my tank and it was a little easier just to get everything on.
Before I removed my upper subframe bolts I took a ratchet strap and hooked it on the subframe and then hooked the other end toward the handle bars and tensioned it up just a little.
This kept the subframe from moving as I did it.
I had 1 bolt all the way through from an upgrade kit the PO did in that upper location so I couldn't do 1 side at a time.

If you are using stock or upgraded bolts using stock threaded bungs in there, there won't be a problem.

The gas tank is very easy to come off, and will make the job alot easier.

I tested them in the dirt, they held up well with out danage to the bike. The crash also seemed to help the vibration.

I just got a used 08 klr yesterday and have been thinking of a set of guards.

What is the advantage to the SW-Motech compared to the happy trails PD nerf?

crash bars

They look better? I just recieved mine and will be putting on today, I have the happy trails panniers on my dl1000 and love em! but the crashbar looks to homemade for me, since I make alot of my mods I sure dont want to pay for something that looks like I made it. I hope I dont upset anyone, thats just my opinion. 1moremile

Something to consider.

Something I read about the SW guards is that the mounting bar for the foot pegs gets in the way for your lower legs and feet on the pegs.

I don't know about this since I never had any. That's why the questions.

I have them on mine and I don't notice they are there. In any way. Never did. Didn't seem to increase the vibes and my legs never touch. YMMV
