I would say I am looking for something to keep me dry for the occasional rain I may get caught in while riding not planning any cross country trips or such. I have seen suits from $39.95(get what you pay for) and up all with mixed reviews. I am curious what your experience has been what you have learned about different rain gear.
For your scenario, a Gore-Tex windbreaker/rain jacket, large enough to fit over your armored riding jacket, and complementing Gore-Tex pants, purchased at a sporting goods/outdoor wear store, would fit your needs, provide excellent rain protection, and reasonably comfortable and convenient riding. More durable than the $ 39.95 sauna-like rain suit. (My gratuitous wardrobe consultation only; many other valid approaches exist. I've successfully gone that route; now have more elegant choices (not unlike Twinjet).)
