I use one on sometimes. We built it (I own a metal fab shop). Any class IV hitch (which is the type used as factory equipment on any modern full size pickup truck) is generally rated at 500 lbs deadweight but keep in mind that is with no extension whatsoever. These things are engineered and bolting them on is just fine as long as you follow the manufacturer's instructions.
A KLR is going to overload a factory Class IV hitch using a bike carrier (which is an extension) and if you don't want to take any chances you can use a "class V" hitch like the Superhitch I use on my dually.

Sage wisdom here. Heed it. A KLR on a carrier on a Class IV hitch is just asking for trouble, no matter what the specs are of the bike carrier and the hitch.
