Dakar 2012

The Dakar race started to day and already one rider has been killed. Argentine motorcycle rider Jorge Martinez Boero was killed when he crashed early in the first stage.

The first motorcycle riders have reached the finish of the 57-kilometre special which inaugurates the 2012 Dakar. Spaniard Marc Coma covered the distance in 32 minutes and 51 seconds. The first ten pilots entered the timed section in two-minute intervals, but Cyril Despres reached the flying finish a bit later, clocking a time of 34 minutes and 25 seconds.

Anybody have some video links of the race to share? Not too much TV coverage here.

"It's a friggen motorcycle, it's not supposed to be comfortable, quiet or safe. The wind noise is supposed to hurt your ears, the seat should be hard and riding it should make you shit your pants every now and then. "
