Maui Rider says Hi there

Aloha,

This forum looks so lonely without at least one post....

I know there's more than me on Maui. I've seen several other bikes, usually when I'm in the car but I have seen them.

Love my 2005. Bought new, now have about 2800 miles on it. Planning to do some work like the doo eventually, improve the mirrors and switch the brake lights out for LED's.

I was in Maui in November. I never saw any KLR's all week but I saw lots of DR650's. You've got some cool riding over there!

I just got a used KLR 650, this is my first bike that can go off-road. I owned a road-bike fifteen years ago, and need to get my endorsement but can't insure the bike until I have it. HOw the heck do people get lisenced here??!! anyway good to see other folks from Maui on this site, I came here trying to get a review on this bike, is it me or is this 650 just a little top heavy? with the fuel tank filled it seems worthless on sand!?? I have dropped this thing four times now, but it sure bounces right up without a hitch, ready to go! I love riding on the road anyway
hope to see you guys riding. Aloha from newest maui member, MIKE

Hey Mike,

I got my license through the motorcycle classes they used to have through either West Oahu or Kapiolani college. Look up the Motorcycle Safety Foundation and drill down to Hawaii. I believe there was a falling out between MSF and Hawaii (among other states) but get the right info. The instructor used to work at the hospital. I'll try and run into him and ask whats' up.

Believe that you can also take a driving test at the DMV. I beleive it's a parking lot test, but again go to the source for the right info.

Yes the pig is heavy. I dropped my 2005 the first time at Jaws in the mud. Also a couple of times in the sand past Honolua Bay.

Did you buy the 2005 that was for sale for around 3K?

I don't get here as often as I should. PM me and we can talk.

Ron

Yes I did. I got it for a lot less because it is so far back on the registration and inspection. Long way to go towards fixing it to be legal. thanks for the reply!
