One too many hoses??

Well, I guess there are not too many but I have never seen so many small hoses on a bike.1992 Tengai.
I have installed:
Vac hose to fuel cock, Fuel supply hose to carb, Carb drain (really!), Carb overflow (really again!), Radiator to reservoir, Coolant reservoir vent, Battery vent, Fuel tank breather and I still have a hose that I simply do not identify a purpose for and the resultant location.
The hose is approx 4.5mm ID but has been stretched to 6mm on one end.
Length is around 210mm

I took a photo but this forum seems to be very difficult when it comes to inserting a photo. It asks for a URL when I simply want to send a photo from personal files.Help for the future appreciated.

May I suggest that you are holding the Clean Side of Air Box Drain Hose. And the small diameter bottom end needs to normally to be kept plugged.

Thanks for reply. However all of those hoses are in position and accounted for. I fitted new duckbills and will check that drain from the small bottle is plugged as suggested in the referenced article.

And could you explain this, [" Carb drain (really!), Carb overflow (really again!)"]

I believe that there is only 1 nipple on the bottom of even your Australian KL650-B "Tengai" carburetor float bowl, correct?

The USA models were forbidden to have the brass Overflow Stand pipe inside of the carburetor float bowls after about 1982, IIRC. So our single nipple on the bottom of the float bowl is only a drain, screw controlled. We are even supposed to install a temporary drain hose, as it hasn't one.

The top left hand plastic nipple is the float bowl atmospheric Air Vent, NOT an "overflow" hose.
The carb will NOT operate properly if IT is restricted or plugged. It normally just hangs alongside the shock spring.

Hoses

My "REALLY" comments are eluding to what I see as an overkill. Maybe just my personal opinion.

Nipple on btm of bowl. This bike had a permanent hose installed. I might scrap that one and install if needed.

Atmospheric Vent: Many comments seen have referred to that nipple as an overflow. Your comment re atmospheric vent makes more sense. Thx for that one. And yes that hose hangs down beside shock.

If I cannot identify the hose 'left over" it will go into my parts bin. How else do we build a stock of spares but from leftovers! (joke of course)

Yeah, I've read many of those comments over the past 10 years of my involvement in KLR forums.

By the time flooding gas is coming out of that high mounted float bowl atmospheric air vent, the intake port is probably FULL if the intake valves are closed. Or the cylinder may be filling if the valves are open. And there may be a significant quantity of fuel in the clean-side of the air box, which needs drained.
What are people Thinking??? Well most of them aren't thinking, they are only passing along mis-information.

Our fearless leader Tom Schmitz aka Souperdoo added a brass overflow stand pipe to his USA model recently,

That’s actually pretty smart and a neat add-on. I’ve been wondering about my Raptor petcock and how often they might fail because I keep forgetting to shut it off. I’ve been spoiled by vacuum operated petcocks and was thinking of returning mine to stock because of this issue. I hadn’t considered adding an overflow to the carb.

Leader. Chortle! Not. Just some guy with too much time on his hands.

As Buddy Clinton said, "Take me to your ladder, I'll be your leader later"; it was about 20-foot tall women on the moon.

I digress.

One overflow tube was done with Seal-All and one with JBWeld. Both worked but I think I prefer the JBWeld because I have done more weird stuff with JB and gotten away with it.
