Explorer Lite Tank Bag/HT Nerf Bag Panniers
Got my Wolfman Explorer Lite tank bag put on today along with soft panniers for the HT Nerf Bars for my trip to Colorado this Summer.
I noticed one downfall to the tank bag (guess would be a plus in cold weather) is that it seems to trap a lot of heat: I suppose it's just a big wind block for your crotch and mid-section. I tried moving it forward some more to create more of a gap between me and it and will try it out on my next ride.
You can get a lot of stuff in it, though: complete set of rain gear, tire guage, stuff like that although I would hesitate to go off and leave a wallet, cell phone, etc. in it because it could very easily be cut off the bike in a matter of seconds.
It will serve its purpose and should come in very handy, though. I was impressed by the quality of it and the simple mounting.
The NT Nerf Bar Panniers are also pretty handy, but again help to block some of that cooling airflow on the legs: nice when it's cold, not so much so when it's hot out.
I'm not real impressed with the velcro strap attachment system and don't really trust it. They're on there empty for now, but once I load them, mostly with tools, tire repair kit, inflator, spare tubes, etc. (stuff I'll rarely if ever need access to) I'm going to put a couple of large zip ties around them to make sure they don't come off. Figure I can keep a razor knife in the tank bag to cut off the zip ties if I need to get into them.
Also got a can of waterproofing spray from Walmart I'm going to use to WP both the tank bag and the pannier bags.
