Avon Gripsters Blocking?

I saw on another website a compilation of different tire reviews and one of the complaints on Avon Gripsters was blocking.
What are they talking about exactly? I have a 2008 KLR650 I just picked up and I have this tire on the back with plenty of tread left and was thinking if there is smething negative about this tire I would like to understand what that is. Probably a noob question but fill me in if you know what they are referring to.

I've never heard of that. I did a quick search and can't any links to reports of "Blocking" Can you describe the problem?

I've run four sets of Gripsters with no issues on my three KLR's over the years. I'm a big fan of these tires myself, but you will find opinions on them that are all over the spectrum.

Perhaps they are referring to the tread packing up with mud? Or maybe the wear pattern and growing a flat spot. I'm guessing the first one.

It has the same comments posted above by thetable.

Tire opinions are like oil opinions.. They always run the gambit. I challenge you to find five people to agree on one tire or one type of oil. It's not gonna happen.

On the blocking thing - I'm still not real clear what that means. Is it that when the center wears down that the sides of the "blocks" stand out more? That's happened to me with my gripsters and my shinkos
Here's a pic of my last shinko - you have to look at the full size version of the pic and look closely. (I don't have a pic of my gripster, but it did the same thing)


I found that after running heavy loads at high air pressure like around 38psi the tire wore down quickly in the center and ended up like this.

I don't think there's anything to worry about. I have a set on my 08 with 11,000 km's on them and they are wearing nice and even, no problems. The back is wearing in the center a bit more but that's because there are no twisties here to wear down the sides
