SW Motech or Givi crash bars? & other things to think about.

Well I just made the deal for a new 2012 KLR, so now to start the process of installing some of the basics. I am new to KLR's so any info for what I should be looking to do to it would be great.

That youtube video is a comparison between the SW Motech and Givi crash bars...

Now, if I could only find one comparing the Happy Trails & SW Motech bars.

Have crash tested the Motechs on a side stand tip over onto the corner of a curb. Barely bent them in, no other damage to bike. Great bars.

Have also crash tested the Motecs from highway speed due to a flat rear. No damage to the bike, scuffed the paint on the bars. I would buy them again in a minute!!!

Thinking of getting a set for my 08 ... I have a Centre Stand on the bike already (KLR650.com) ... any idea if there would be a problem fitting the bars with the centre stand? I read somewhere there were extra bolts on offer if you had the Motech stand ...

I have the SW Motechs and I am happy with them so far. I do not have the center stand but SW Motech does make one that fits with the crash bars. I am not sure how other brands fit.

SW Motech

I have a set on my 2011. No real crashes, but I have had my KLR decide to take a nap a couple of times. (Soft lay down at a standstill.) No bike damage, and bars didn't even get a scratch.

If it helps, here's an outline of how I installed mine. http://www.powers31.info/SW%20Motech...1%20KLR650.pdf

Ageing Gracefully

2017 Yamaha XT250
1990 Honda NX250 (Green/White)
2011 Kawasaki KLR 650 (Orange & White )

If you look at the hardware layout in my pdf link, you will see that I got an extra set of bolts for when using a center stand. ( #12 in pix. on page 1 )
"Foot Peg Bolts" detail in the chart ( Fig.4 )

I don't have a center stand on my bike, so I don't know if it fits??
