Heyo Slowpoke,

Do you think that is overkill? Don't get me wrong, that is a cool set up but is it necessary. We are riding KLR's and they can take almost anything nature.

I will be taking a 8 day trip and camping most of the way. I would like to bring only essentials plus a comfort item or two. The less to carry, the less to pick up.

I like the idea of the redverz. They look real cool.

Not sure I could justify carrying something that big though.

+1 for that. I use mine on the ground. It's not the best thing I've ever slept on, but it is the best camping pad I've slept on. The inflatable thermarest doesn't come out of the closet anymore.

That hammock looks awesome, and I know people who swear by them. But I camp a few too many places where trees are sparse to be comfortable only carrying a hammock.

My gear is the same as my backpacking gear. My 1-person tent has busted zippers, so I got a 2-person (a legitimate 2-person) to stand in until I get it fixed. Ironically, the larger tent weighs less, but sadly is more bulky. When camping alone, it's palatial.

It has a few features that I think are excellent. One is the rainfly goes way out, and can hide my size-13 Alpinestars Scouts. The other is that there's room inside for 2 people and the rest of their moto gear if the night's going to be rainy or icy.

I sometimes bring a water filter, depending on the trip and availability of water on the route.

I actually have a small bearcan I carry, as well, when out in bear country. I'm paranoid and don't want a bear taking my bike apart on a quest for food. Doubles as a short campseat. Even if there are no bears, it keeps the other critters out of my stuff.

Everything except the pad goes in my sidebags and a big bag I carry on the back. Sadly, the big bag isn't waterproof. I need to do something about that, someday, besides wrapping it in a large contractors trash bag.

If I turn the big bag sideways, I can strap a gas can on behind it, too.
