For all those that have used the mefos,
What is your opion of them?
How would you rate them off road?
How would you rate them on road?
What air presure di/do you run them?
How many miles did you get out ot the front?
How many miles did you get out of the rear?
Would/did you buy another set?

Mefo 99 explorer
I'm on my second set and will have a third
Off road they are great until deep mud,but gravel and dirt they work well
On road, wonderful, plenty off grip,Both Kay and I have drug pegs with them.No whining either when they start to wear down
On road loaded or unloaded around 34/36 F/R,off road 20/22 F/R
Still running the front with around 7,000,but it is not wearing as well as the back, starting to cup pretty bad
Changed the back one with 10,500 miles and still had a little wear bar left
the back tire wants to crack around the lugs, but hasn't hurt the integrety of either set
I haven't been dissapointed with them on any terrain that we ride. All in all one of the best tires I have run,
I would have to say one of the best dual sport tires out there, imho.

happy trails

I have had two sets also.

Will be buying another. Just havn't found a better 50/50 tire out there for the mileage??

For normal dirt and grass they do great! As I posted before, raced a national enduro with them! So they can't be all that bad? Now in the greasy stuff you have to air down, and watch that the front don't slide out from you.

I currently have distanzas on my street set. Now they provide alittle more stability than the mefo's in the corners, however the mefo's have a predictable "roll" to them. When you are going through a turn and encounter gravel or such the distanzas scare you to death, the mefo's just run right over the stuff with out missing a beat. Also the mefo only rolls for a tad then rails as well as any!!

For a do it all and do it all well tire, its very hard to beat the mefo? You can get cheaper tires, but not that handle as well for the mileage. My o2 anyways

With three endorsments like that, with no negative remarks I guess I'll have to order a set. I figure by the time I return from TDA (tour de apalcicola) (I can't say it or spell it right) I'll be needing a set of rubber for KLaspeR. The mefos sound like they will work well for my type of riding and I really like the miles they give.

Only thing I might add is that they dont like like steel rail bridges !! You'll get quite a bit of wobble but not a problem if your ready for it. Only have 1,100 miles on them so far, they have worked " as advertised "
Yea, I believe any tire with tall luggs, you will get roll and wobble to an extent. But also forgiveness ?

Finally a straight answer! Good question DJ! One more tho. Slag and HCMan do you also run the explorers or the knobbies
?

I run the explorers, and have a knobbie(sand mefo) front on my other set for racing and practiceing..

The mefo sand knobbies, last ok, but are for ONLY off road. They are terrible on road. Now I am talking about the sand knobbs, not the stonemasters, although I would assume the same.

SAME SUBJECT, DIFFERENT TIRE>

If I may horn here? Has anybody have information pro or con on the Kenda 761 tires? I am seriously looking at them to replace my O.E.M. tires when they wear out. I will say I am not that displeased with the 1500 plus mile O.E.M. tire performance thus far.

I ran the 761's and they are a decent street tire. Can't say how many miles they lasted because I didn't keep track of the miles when I switched from dirt to street tires.
The ONLY complaint I had with them is the rear slid a few times in the rain while down shifting. I only noticed it after is was about 3/4 ths gone.

I finally bit the bullet and ordered a new set of tires. I had to try the mefos. Since I'd never seen a decent picture of them on the boards, I took a few. Here ya' go!

Ordered these through the KLR650.com link at the top of the main page, they arrive 3 days later (to my delight!)

Hey Jamie, nice buy. How's your recoup session goin? You won't be disappointed with the
tires. The only thing I can say is the front tire you really have to keep up with the tire
pressure,it will want to cup early.I run 34/36 in mine on the street, but now I think maybe
should of been a little more.Trial and error I suppose as everyone rides different.

Hey Mike,
Thanks for the tip! My back actually feels great. But I still have a lot on numbness, pain and muscle non-function in my leg. I've heard it can take up to 6 months for nerve damamge to heal. So, I'm on the long wait. I tried to dink on my bike the other day. but that didn't go very well. I found that you have to bend your leg quite a bit when tearing down a bike! So it's sitting out there torn apart waiting for me. Kinda sad really.
I have a new seat, tires, heated grips, cruise control, and nerf bars to install. It's torn down to check the valves. They were in spec., but a little tight. So I'm going to switch 'em out and get them a little closer to the top. I also took off the left lower case and manually checked my doo. It wouldn't move a bit, so I guess I'm good there. Spilled a bunch of oil on the floor as the bike was on the lift and not leaned to the right! Whatta mess. I'll have to top that off as well.
Anyway, sorry to ramble. I try to work up the "ignore the pain" mojo each day to do something productive, but it's tough. No worries, though. I am confident that I will heal, it'll just take a while. I have great sick leave and a supplemental insurance plan for just this type of thing, so my family still gets a good income. I feel great about that.
OK, I gotta shut up now.

Mefos goooood!

I've got a set of Mefo Explorers with about 5000 miles and no serious problems.
The cracks around the lugs are on mine too, but I check them a lot, not much progression. The fronts are cupping too, but handling is still great in everything but mud. I run around 20-21 psi front & back. That may be the cupping problem there. Any feedback on pressure is appreciated. Bike is carrying about 170 lbs total and 90% street, 10% on trails/gravel.

I am convinced the cracking of the lugs comes from low tire pressure. I "think" anything below 25 psi will cause the cracks.
I'm talking street riding mainly, lower for the dirt might be OK, I don't do enough dirt to say.

I have just 6000 miles on my set of MEFO's and I like them pretty well. I was impressed with how well they've worn so far with a lot of road riding back and forth to work (66 miles round trip). These are only the 1st set of tires I had on it besides the stock Dunlops and I plan buying another set.

The pictures are from july w/ about 4 or 5 thousand miles after a trip to Copper Harbor, Michigan. I think I will end up getting 7000 maybe 8000 out of them. No cracks around the knobbies either, I had the tires aired up pretty hard to 34/36 on road.
