Head sets

So, looking at purchasing a pair of headsets to go inside of me and my wifes helmets but really have no idea what to look for.
I don’t need a lot of options. Simply 2-way communications between our bikes is good enough, with marginal required.
I’ve heard of an item called ‘chat box’ but not sure what this is or even if it’s what we’re looking for. Any info or recommendations you guys could share would be greatly appreciated.
Oh, and my max budget would be $250.

I have the Sena SMH10 and find it to be a very good unit. It gets rave reviews and the company is very good. $250 is about the right budget.

There are some inexpensive solutions from offshore on e-Bay. I've heard they usually work pretty well. I have no experience with them; they should be fine for on-bike communication. Their range between bikes might no be so great.

Second on the Sena units. Have not tried any others but they suit my needs.

My wife and I have one each. Clear rider-rider communications up to a kilometer, syncs via bluetooth with my phone and music. All day battery and reasonably quick charge.

Lots of options for set up such as units with remote mikes, earbud options etc. If you are a member of ADVRider, Rocketmoto has and adv rider discount on a pair purchase. Look in the vendors area of the flea market.

Messed around today with the intercom feature of the SMH10 -

On a ride with Snakeboy66 we were able to clearly talk back and forth on the streets and freeway.

We got the Scalarider Q2. They're OK. At freeway speeds, it can turn to noise (you can make out the spaces between the words, but each word is largely static.) Otherwise they're fine. I'd probably look elsewhere if I was buying again.
