Olympia ?

About time for a new jacket and I am trying to decide
between the AST II or the MotoX.
Has anyone had either or both in hand, why one over the other?

I bought a new AST II about two years ago. It fit nicely but the stitching was uneven and didn't look like very good quality. I wore it locally a couple times on short rides in the dry and it felt ok. I left on a 5 day trip with a light drizzle at the beginning. Within 30 minutes my shirt was soaked even though the rain was light. We were going to be going through the town that Olympia is located in so I stopped by the business to show the leaky jacket. The guy mumbled a few things ,went in the back and later came out with a new jacket. I swapped jackets and took off to go eat lunch before continuing the trip. As I was riding I looked down at the left sleeve and there was a 2" hole in the sleeve where the seam was not sewn. After eating lunch I went back to show them the hole and received another jacket(#3). The rain stopped for a few hours but in the evening began to drizzle again,I got soaked again. When I came back from the trip I called the small shop that I bought the AST from and asked what I needed to do to make it water proof. He replied "it IS waterproof" after telling what I had been through he said he would call Olympia and call me right back. About 15 minutes later he said he didn't get them but he would refund my money as they shouldn't leak like that.
Later I bought a First gear Kathmandu from the same place and it has been 100% waterproof on several trips. I've talked to a few other people that have had issues with quality and customer service at Olympia however some people have had good luck with them. 3 bad jackets is enough reason for me to stay away.
Hopefully they have the quality issues corrected.

Wonder what if anything happened, in the past they have been a well respected company with quality products.
My last purchase was an Olympia Patton mesh jacket and it has held up well but is now 4yrs old.
Times change, owners can change, suppliers change, I wonder what happened ?
Can anyone else offer opinions on the new jacket offerings.

I've had an Olympia Voyager jacket for a number of years. It's no longer made but I would say it's a short version of the AST. It continues to be a great jacket. I actually prefer Olympia clothing so if there are now quality issues that would be troublesome.

A buddy has a mesh, shorty jacket made by Olympia that he likes. Some people have had dry AST jackets and liked them and they may do well for protection in a get-off. A google of "AST2 jacket leaks" shows a few others that have had the leaking. I would rather not carry rain gear if I can avoid it.

I've got a version 1 AST that I've worn for about 5 years. It's showing it's age and I'm going to replace it soon. I'm going with a Motoport cordura jacket (can't afford the kevlar). They custom make the jacket to your measurements. It's not waterproof so I'll carry rain gear but I live in the desert so it's not a big deal for me.

There's a big Motoport thread on ADV:
