Rideing jacket

What jacket do you guys suggest for on and off road rideing. I was told the Joe Rocket Balistic jacket was the way to go but what do you guys think?

I am looking for a 3/4 length jacket, waterproof, great ventilation and can be warn all year round. Of course armor and road rash protection is important. What else should I be lookin for in a jacket. I have warn my ole leather jacket for 1/4 century or so and it's time to retire it. Also where is the best place place to get the jacket you suggest?

thanks for the help

I have a Vega Nitro Tourismo Jacket and Pants, but I don't think the jacket is made anymore. They have a new Millenium jacket that took it's place from what I can tell. For the price, Vega makes some good stuff. Summer use can get warm if you aren't moving. It comes with a fleece insert for cooler weather. My Tourismo is pretty warm and can get me through the 30's for a several hours with the fleece, each persons tolerance is different. The Tourismo pants are very warm and the liner isn't removable, which is a major flaw. Mostly cooler weather pants.

My main summer gear is Firstgear Meshtex II jacket and pants. Amazing stuff without a doubt. So much airflow it's like I'm not even wearing gear.

Honestly, I don't think it matters much these days between the main companies. Price and styling seem to do all the talking for most people because the protection and overall quality is all the same these days. Unless you are talking about Aerostitch where everything including price is on another level.

I've got a bunch of 3/4 length motorcycle jackets. They're all good, but I almost always grab my old Aerostich Darien jacket.

It does everything, is comfortable, and it just won't die..

I bought it used, 5 years ago, and I wear it all the time. I thought about replacing it last summer, and was all set to ride up to Duluth and buy a new one.. I got halfway there and thought "Why?".. It's still perfectly usable, waterproof, and it would be stupid to buy another..

I look at them all, and I like them all (Love the Olympia) but I just keep going back to the Aerostich stuff.. Just broke in my Aerostich AD1 pants last weekend, too..
