Has anyone pulled a trailer behind a KLR?

I'm looking to pick up an 06 KLR650 on Tuesday and was wondering if anyone has ever pulled a trailer behind one. I have this idea about combining motorcycle and kayak touring. Any thoughts, ideas,? Anybody want to talk me out of it? Am I on to something or do I need to be disabused of the notion?

There is a photo floating around somewhere of a KLR towing a kayak through deals gap. And there are many motorcycle trailers available. Retro fitting the KLR to tow a trailer has also been done. Start googling and searching because it's all spread out.

i have been kickin around the idea of hauling a kayak too... have you thought about mounting it alongside like a sidecar? how long is your kayak?

My kayak is a 14' Necky. Properly packed, it will carry camping gear. But how to do it is the issue. I don't think a sidecar is the answer.

I'd like to hook up a trailer and will look at one seriously if I get my bike tomorrow. Harbor freight has small ones for 200 bucks. You'd have to put a platform on it, but it seems like it would work. I really want to be able to use it for groceries or some stuff from lowes.

Make a hitch like this that goes to the swingarm. I would imagine you could pull a little more than this with a KLR though.

A guy in FL that I have met a couple times at Tour De Tellico and Apalachicola had a KLR and a "burro" trailer and he had over 75,000 miles on the KLR most if which he put on pulling the trailer.

Today is the first day of the rest of your life.
