Battle born gear

I'm in the right forum section for this aren't I?

I'm looking for all weather riding gear and don't want to spend a fortune (but could if needed). It's also my first set of riding gear.

Does anyone have any experience with the ARC battle born jacket and pants? Are there cheaper alternatives that are just as good. I see on Ebay there are REALLY cheap pants and jackets that look to have some of the same features...... but..... I'm leery of this.

Mostly, I'm just looking for experiences with the battle born stuff, or comparisons of similar equipment that I should consider.

Thanks

I was going to respond - "never heard of them, stick to a name brand". Thought I would Google it first and check it out.

Went to the Rocky Mtn. ATV site and WOW I'm impressed. That looks like an awesome combination at an excellent price point. I paid near $250 a few years ago for a pair of Olympia pants.

Are you thinking of ordering a set? Is this stuff available here in Alberta or are you getting out of the USA. I'd have to give it a little more thought but if you are ordering maybe I can piggyback on your order and we can share the shipping. Just not sure I'll ever get back to Ft. Mac again though.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

Order from states

Yeah, it looks like pretty good stuff, and I'd like to try it out. However, our $ is crap AND shipping from Rocky Mountain is expensive ( they don't offer USPS). I'm going to talk to them in the next few days though, and see if I can get cheaper shipping.

I'll keep you posted on what I decide and if you want to split shipping, that'd be great.

Where are you?

Also, just looking to have something here before April, so no big rush

Best way to get your stuff here from the US is to find a snowbird ing friend who will take the shipment and bring it back to you. Otherwise the cost of shipping added to the current exchange rate pretty well negates any saving you might see and in most cases makes it more expensive.

I tried to get RM ATV to ship on anything other than Ups last year. NO WAY they said. Cost them that and any future sales from me. I WILL NOT ship anything ups ever again. Hope you can get them to change their shipper Bfediuk!

Niiiiice. Good find on the gear. I think I'll be picking up that jacket if I can't find anything at our local CycleGear.

Especially like how they described the guy wearing it on their site. I am just slightly taller than him, slightly larger chest, but smaller waist. That thing would fit me perfectly! Has a freaking water bladder pocket on the back. Freaking legit!

Ya UPS sucks for us.... Unpredictable border fees and the fees always show up way later and when you find out about them, your payment is always overdue and they're threatening to send a creditor after you!!

I avoid it as much as possible.

I have done several runs to the border (sweetgrass Montana) and gotten free shipping and no broker fees. Sometimes you don't even pay duty!

I use United States postal Service for most of my US purchases. They hand off to Canada post who charge $9.95 flat service fee to handle the package through customs.
I use loomis for my over seas purchases. Reasonable and VERY quick. 3 days from Great Briton and 3 days from Australia as examples of my last two shipments. That is directly to Lac La Biche in 3 days!! I can't get stuff from Ontario that quick!
Ups charges whatever they feel like often doubling the value of whatever you bought as a "handling fee".

I think all us Canucks have a UPS story to tell. Mine is rather long with them holding my stuff ransom at the door unless I paid their fees. Then a couple weeks later they sent me a bill in the mail for more money. I wrote "GOOD LUCK" on it and sent it back.

Never used UPS again. No postal, no buy is my motto.
