New 2017 KLR650

Just Purchased a 2017 and would like input from you guys on the best accessories to get. Would like to start with maybe a taller windshield and some bags to carry stuff like a windshield bag, backrack bag/case, tank bag, saddlebags etc. Just need to carry my personal stuff for day long adventures. Not doing any long trips but maybe an overnighter to friends occassionally so not alot of stuff. Any imput from anyone would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Pete

The same day I brought my '16 home, my son dropped it on the left side bending a radiator mount. Crash guards were my first purchase.

I got the SW Motec bars.
Have gone down at slow speed a couple times. They seems beafy enough.

Proper skid plate, if any off-road riding is contemplated. Happy Trails/Utah Sport Cycle product works, in my experience. Happy Trails sells serviceable nerfs (crash guards) also.

Proper (metal-foundation) handguards, if any dropping is possible (save control levers from breakage sometimes). Tusk from Rocky Mountain ATV/MC are crashworthy, readily installable, and . . . AFFORDABLE (I'd get the plastic spoilers, too).

Kawasaki handlebar bag very handy and useful, in my experience.

Like Dan, mine have been tested . . . several times. They work as designed!

Like Damocles I'd also strongly suggest a Skid Plate and I'd add a low profile Oil Drain Plug as well.

2017 here also after riding a 2006 for years.
Firsts?
-SW Moteck crash bars and skid plate...they play well together
-Zero Gravity Sport Touring windscreen. I like it a lot. Clean un-buffeted air to the head. Hey, I'm on a motorcycle, I want to feel some wind.
-Shad 33 rear box
-Seat concepts low seat...very comfortable (I'm 5'10" and, hate long walks on the beach...)
-two LED spots mounted to front forks
may do proper hand guards as soon as I find 1)plug and play 2) good wind protection

Welcome, good luck, and enjoy

I know there are better brands out there but so far I have been happy with the Tusk brand and the price is hard to beat.
