Helmets

Hoping to get some suggestions on a decent helmet that won't break the bank.
I need a full face helmet that I can easily find a replacement shield for later after I undoubtedly will scratch the original shield by wiping it with my glove.

Also, quietness is a must. I am so so tired of listening to the wind in my ears as I ride. I've tried many helmets and even the snugger fitting ones still seem to let the wind blow into my ears on the highway.

I welcome any and all recommendations.

I’m curious the suggestions.

Helmets range $50 Walmart, to $1,500+ for light weight fiber.

Mine was almost $300 for an AGV.
It’s quieter than my last $85 “special” buy but still plenty of wind noise. I fear the only way to quiet that down is with ear plugs.

I think your right about the ear plugs. They're just an added pain I was hoping to find an easier solution for. I should probably think about spending the $ elsewhere since I have literally hundreds of earplugs from my days of running the bulldozer. I find them uncomfortable though.

I agree with Dan. I have been through more than 10 helmets and they were all noisy. Ear plugs seem to be the solution. I buy foam plugs in bulk packs and reuse them several times. I also keep several spares in my tank bag.

I hear ya on not wanting to wear ear plugs. I don't like them either. The bag of soft orange plugs from Home Depot are pretty good.

Ear plugs

Not all ear plugs are created equal. I've some that suppress wind better than others, and some that amplify the whine from my 50/50 tires.
Shop around, and try some different ones. You may find a set that will work on the type of noise you want to control.

I would like to get a full face helmet, but can't seem to get past the eyeglass issue. I try to put the glasses on after the helmet, and always get them in my ear, or below it. Pulling a full face helmet off always yanks my glasses off with it.

I use the 'Hearos' re-usable 'Rock-n-Roll' series ear plugs with great success. I do shorten their removal stems a bit, for helmet usage. I clean them with a soak in hydrogen peroxide.

Larry, try a modular or flip face, full face helmet like a HJC IS-MAX II or any other flip face, full face helmet. Leave your eyeglasses ON and put the helmet on like any open face helmet. Pull down and latch the chin-bar & shield after you leave the drive way or gas stop. I'm wearing a Nolan N102, it has an external sun-shade shield. The HJC helmet has an internal sun-shield (even better, stays cleaner).
