I live and ride in bear country. Carry bearspray. I carry one permanently on my riding coat belt and keep it handy in camp. Bangers and whistles and horns are very limited and easily ignored by a bear. They don't necessarily relate the noise to danger.
A gun is not practical to carry. It will be leaned up against a tree on the other side of the campsite when you need it.
Keep a clean campsite and use food lockers where available. Don't cook and eat where you sleep. If you are remote camping pitch your tent well away from the food area.
