Harvest Classic Rally, Luchenbach, TX - Oct 19-20

OK KLR riders, it's time for the 4th annual Luckenbach KLR Society chapter meeting at the Harvest Classic Rally. For those of you who aren't in the know, the Harvest Classic Rally is a charity event to raise money for children's cancer that's held at the Luckenbach campground every October (check out harvestclassic dot org) 4 years ago, a group of three KLR riders met by accident when pulling into the campground on Friday afternoon, and as they sat visiting, several more KLR riders passed by, asking "is this the KLR area?" Completely by accident, the Luckenbach KLR Society was born. As the Society's duly elected janitor, who lives in nearby Austin, I trailer my bike in, along with a mess of top notch camp gear so that the guys riding in from afar want for nothing. We got a big old awning, folding camp chairs, lanterns, lots of coolers, ice and cold beverages, groceries for Saturday and Sunday morning breakfast, and on and on. If would be an understatement to say that the KLR riders have the best digs at the rally. Guys who own those high dollar European dual sports have been known to set aside their prejudice long enough to stop by and act interested just to see if they get offered a chair or some grub. If you think you're coming, drop me a note so I can keep a good head count & I'll do my best to make sure everyone's got a chair & some breakfast. There's a vintage bike show and a trials event on Saturday during the day, with an auction, a movie, some live music, and a free BBQ dinner Saturday night. And there's more motorbikes and scooter trash than you can count. So enjoy the ride over and join us for a mighty fine, completely informal annual KLR event. Here's a personal challenge to every KLR rider who decides to join us: The Harvest Classic is a formal non-profit (full details on their web site), and all the stuff and effort required to put on the rally is donated, so 100% of the registration fees and auction proceeds from the rally go to the Candlelighters Childhood Cancer program. If you decide to come, solicit folks you know to "sponsor your ride" with donations made out to Harvest classic, or to the Candlelighters Childhood Cancer program. The rider who shows up with the most loot for the cause will win a brand new set of pro taper bars, a Luckenbach KLR society hat, T shirts from the big KLR parts vendors and whatever other swag I can come up with between now and then. We're hoping to make a significant contribution to the rally beyond our registration fees, to show everyone that KLR rider's hearts are as great as our bikes, and to offer a challenge to BMW, Ducati and KTM owners to try to beat us next year. A little friendly competition just might raise the bar, and in the end, save a kid with cancer's life. Don't be shy, ask folks to donate - it's tax deductible, and if kids with cancer ain't a good cause, I don't know what is. I hope to see y’all there.

I'm the guy with the silver / maroon bike with the KX250 front end on it (gold upside down forks) and a funny looking dash with oil pressure gauges...

As time draws near, I'll be posting more details, along with a map to the spot where most of the KLR guys camp each year.

Are you guys continuing this? It's close enough I could do this, my sis lives in that area, but also if I bring a dual sport bike other than a KLR are you guys gonna punish me?!
