I like this group but find it constraining not be be able to offer more detail.
Great post regarding the lights Normk. I am going to use that info myself.

What I have quoted from your post troubles me a little.

Firstly about the photos. What do you mean by reaching a limit? Are you trying to use a Gallery here and you've reached a limit on it? I am not aware of the Gallery constraints. Your best bet for posting pictures with no limit is to use a photo sharing site such as PhotoBucket. The hall you need do is post the image link and the picture will appear in your post.

As to the Contact Us issue. I really don't know where that connects to but I've never seen anything as a result of some one using it. Likely scenario is that it goes to the Owners of the site and is more concerned with logging in issues. If you have an issue or question your best response will come by PM'ing a Moderator. If we can't answer your query we will do our best to get an answer.

Lastly you say that you are looking for a web group that bans rudeness and name calling. Well stay right here. Generally speaking we don't come down to hard on anyone. If you have an issue with a post the best way to address it is to click the Report Post button and the Moderator's will look into it. Unfortunately I haven't got the time to read every post this is a volunteer position after-all. We're doing our best to keep everybody happy.

Sorry for jacking this thread.

Sorry about the hijack also but hoped that someone would address the concerns.

First let me say that my post may have given the wrong impression. I'm not upset with this group or the moderators. I like both the decorum here (no rudeness or name calling, unlike some others), and the forum's "mechanics".

Thank-you for responding as I had not received any response to the contact us. The problem was that I was looking for a way around the problem of not being able to post more photos to the gallery here. When I try, a message comes up that I have reached my limit. I tried to work out how some photos might be deleted but gave up on that because they were linked to previous posts and so would remove them from there. That would only be stop-gap regardless.

My son has shown me how to load photos to a site and link so I can do that although it does remove access to the photos from the control of this web group. This may be a better compromise for me regardless as I've had some struggles in trying to include a photo to answer a question because the posting isn't allowed due to a message that the photo has already been posted to another thread.

I have a basic working knowledge of computer and web usage but have not much interest above that because I'm interested in the mechanical side of things.

Having to post and link adds another level of complexity when what I want to do is to post some test, then a photo, text, etc. Maybe those days are gone?

I found with the gallery was the limit on the number of photos that could be stored given the individual quota is limited to ~15Mb if I recall correctly. That said the work around has been to store the photos on another site and reference them here using the image link option in the posting. I do not know if that is a choice by the site owner to keep the over space needed for the site down or that is a limit of the content management software being used for the forum. Would like to see the space for individual photos/videos increased but I understand that can get expensive if gigabytes of space is handed out.

Normk;

I fixed the image so it would display in your post. Unfortunately the Imgur site is not very friendly to image links for forums. May be great for sharing in other ways but for what I had to do to make it work I'm sure you won't be impressed.

I would really encourage you to take a look at PhotoBucket. It's pretty well the best and easiest to use IMO.

There is an excellent tutorial on posting images here:

Thanks for the responses and thanks hugely for improving the image.

Sorry that you had to take the trouble but appreciate that you are kind enough to do so.

I will look into PhotoBucket. From my end, the issues are that I choose not to post these photos onto eternal web sites so having to do this adds at least one extra step ...no, make that about four extra steps to posting information into a web groups such as this one. I just use a big hard drive, have an in-house back-up system, and store periodic copies elsewhere.

Hope this doesn't sound like I'm whining but we all have a treshold of effort versus value and mine is balancing "doing a nice thing" against "how much trouble it is to do". Part of that equation can be return value but I'm generally not in need of motorcycle technical assistance so that one is quite small.

I'd really like to just take the photos, post photos and description in line and post. I've been doing it that way on other groups for years. I prefer the decorum of this group to that one so have left off. The other KLR gorups to which I belong don't allow photo sharing.

Having to take the photos, upload somewhere, record where they are, begin posting, find the photo source on line & link, then continue adds a hassle factor which makes me reluctant to make the effort. Lazy I know, but it's getting to be over that threshold so hoping someone can point me to a simply (easy) solution. I know that there are people out there who simply don't have the time to do this work or aren't technically able so would like to make it accessible. I have a ton of information and my son says I should post it to my own web site however that's another can of worms.... I don't need to own the information, don't desire credit for it, simply want others to have access.

I know I'm a dinosaur but don't see that changing at my age.

I wonder how some of the other web groups handle this as have posted gigs of photos to ST1100, sports car, KLR and such sites?

Normk;

I did try to locate where you are hosting images on this site. I could not find anything under your user name. Maybe you can direct me to it.

With PhotoBucket I have a KLR folder and upload my images for the forum into that. With tabbed Web Browsers it's fairly straight forward. I open a tab, get my upload started then go back and do the text. Then when the upload is finished I get the IMG tag link and copy and paste it in.

I understand where you are coming from though as to effort versus value. Some folks will ask a question without doing a forum search first because it's easier and takes less time. Myself I'm so tired of posts about Doohickeys for example.

Appreciate your effort and willingness to share your abundant knowledge.

This thread has gone so far off the rails, I have a request for a moderator: "Would it be possible to rename this thread and place the pin-out post alone under this title?"

It would be most appreciated if we might continue this subject to the point where I'm able to get the posts done in an efficient manner, but think this thread might be off-putting to somone who has interest in the pin-outs and who might waste valuable time in looking through for more information on that subject.

I try not to allow the "drip, drip, drip.." of repeated questions to get to me although I used to love to fake an outburst with each of my new college classes. I'd rant and rave about having answered the same question every year, to every new group of students and here is someone asking again. It sometimes took a few minutes before someone caught on and then it was the running joke all term. That helped to diffuse my frustration.

Everyone who posts (or almost everyone) a doohickey question is doing it for the first time, it's new to them and likely they don't understand anything about it. When I'm becoming frustrated, I step back and don't respond unless no one else does. The other side of that coin is that I'm not pure of the asking redundant questions bug.

Another one is that it is easy for me to assume that the person to whose question I am responding likely knows more on the subject than I will every learn. That their problem is that they just don't know that the systems with which they work professionally are hugely simplified and applied to their bike. Or, that they are 60 IQ points above me and will learn what I offer at the first get-go, leaving me far in the dust.

I'm not competitive about knowing and like most to find that I'm the one who knows least. The best day is when I learn why I'm wrong about something!

Let me try to repost that diagram to see what happens as I forget the exact terminology used in the notice. OK, the Manage Attachments pop-ip shows the total of attachements owned my Normk as 1.05 mb which is about 1/2 of the red-green slider.

It uploaded and the slider shows about 3/4 red with 1.52 mB.

The images which I'd like to use to show the Brown Wire Modification are about 663 kB so that will soon put me over the limit and much before the procedure is done.

Another group to which I used to belong (no longer active because don't have one of those bikes) allowed larger upload amounts if one is a paying member. "Hmm, you want me to pay in order to post information in support of your web site?". Someone would need to explain why I'd want to do that.

OK, off to talk with son about online storage.
