Cigarette lighter?

Why use one?
I installed a 2 prong plugin on the KLR. I've hooked them up on all my bikes to plug in a trickle charger or my small air compressor.
So why do guys put a cig lighter hookup on the dash? What's the benefit/convenience that I'm missing? Thanks!

In my experience, they don't work well when moving because the plug always vibrates loose. They work ok if you're not moving though. They are good to have for compatibility. Lots of automotive stuff has a cigarette lighter plug. Compressors, chargers, stuff like that. Oh, and you can get a device that will actually light your cigarette, it plugs right into it. Bonus for me.

I have a Powerlet mounted on my left number plate.. I carry an adapter that goes from a male Powerlet plug to a cigarette lighter, so I can run my blower for air mattresses.. I like it down there for connecting my electric vest..

The two pronged one is a SAE plug.. Powerlet is a very short plug that is held in place with an internal spring.. It's not the official name.. I've bought them from BMW and John Deere dealers..

The SAE is nice if you have a retainer for the cord when not in use.. My V Strom was set up that way.. I like the convienence of the Powerlet style plug, and have one on all my bikes for the last 10 years, past and present..

On the FZ6, it's just above the left footpeg, tucked away.. On the black R80, it's just below the seat, just in front of the saddlebag.

On the former Wing..

On the Wing before it.. John Deere Emblem and all..

And it was standard on my old BMW oilhead, up and in front of the footpeg.

Since all my stuff uses it, I'm stuck with it as a standard part..
