Rifle scabbard

Probably been asked before but can't find any good pics or info. Looking for a way to mount a rifle scabbard on my KLR for trips to the range or on adventures into the hills. Will be carrying anything from an AR carbine (about 32 inches) to a Springfield Trapdoor (about 52 inches). Don't like the idea of carrying any firearm slung over my back, might get some unwanted attention from everyone under the sun in Kalifornistan lol. Thanks for the help.

Back in the Good Ol' Days Honda produced a Factory accessory specially fabricated long-gun mounting attachment for the Honda 90 and later, the Honda 110. This unique metal rack if you will was mounting to existing components along the front fork area of bike. If you visit historical military vehicle sites you will also discover war bikes (Old Harley's) sporting leather scabbards mounted simularly utilizing all leather scabbards. Depending on make and modal of weapon, you'll notice M-1 Carbines, even Thompson Machine guns with appropriate scabbard designed for ease and acessability.

Being able to get a close look, try printing out the photo then head out to Fruitvale Avenue and discuss your need with a welder/fabricator... knowing those guys? They'd be all Gung-hoo to have a go at making you a happy KLR gat totting well armed Anti-Marriage-Junona Intercept and destroy...

If you treasure your spinal column, a rifle carried on your back with a sling is the last thing you want if you happen to crash.

If you're going to be carrying a variety of guns, I would suggest one hard case that's big enough to carry any of them. Just strap it down lengthwise across the luggage rack and back of the seat, sticking straight out behind you.

Still not the safest: in the event of a rear-ender, it could still be driven into you and do some damage. I guess you could just attach it crosswise if you're not doing any off-roading and wouldn't have to worry about it sticking out.

If you have a top case or anything that interferes with that method, good luck. I personally use a Molle shotgun scabbard attached to my eBay side guards, but it's only good for carrying shorter rifles and shotguns.

Kolpin manufactures closed scabbards and mounting brackets, adaptable to versatile mounting on ATV's, imagine one could be rigged satisfactorily on a KLR.

The kolpin scabbard won't fit everything, but it's not a bad way to carry a rifle on your KLR. I would look at one of the rectangular rifle cases and find a way to mount it like an ammo can.

I've seen riders mount bow and arrows from the rear foot peg to the rear rack. I bet with some imagination you could mount a gun case for an ATV the same way.

I've got one of those rectangular soft cases that fits most of my rifles, look into how that would work, I will also look into one of the Kolpin hard cases, might jerryrig something with that also.

Might suggest looking into atv gun mounts for handle bars if you dont care about what others think of you mounts run about $40 just mount right up to your bars shouldn't interfer with driving or handling.

Saw a guy just the other day on what looked like one of the BMW bikes had a ten speed bicycle sticking straight out the back behind him along with all kinds of other gear.
