Cool thing for Canon point 'n shoots

I've been playing with CHDK for the Canon point 'n shoots.

It's a hack that allows you to do all sorts of neat things with your lowly point n shoot.

I have a Canon ELPH 300HS that I put it on.

You can shoot in RAW, set up time delays, motion sensing, override shutter speed limitations, film speed, and a whole bunch of neat stuff. It's even got games. It won't harm your camera; it loads from the SD card. You can set it up for manual load or automatic load.

Here's the http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/CHDK.

I did this dumb test of time delay. Did in low quality so it would upload fast.

If you have a Canon SLR you can do similar things with Magic Lantern.

I've been looking for a used canon point and shoot to try this.
I'll find one sooner or later. I want to play with the time lapse.
I think a 4 hour bike ride made into a 3 min video would be cool.

I'm having trouble just getting my camera version firmware. I tried putting a ver.req file on my SD card but don't get anything. I have the same ELPH 300HS as Tom does.

This is where I put the file.

Poke around a bit on the web. There's a utility that will give you the version from an image. If I ever get out of Canada and get home I'll get you a link.

Kickin' back to Chilliwack,

The ver.req didn't work for me either, but this did:
