Little Things - Big Difference
I've been pretty busy with the bike lately and am going to have to catch up on some of the new toys on board soon. A while back I showed pictures and story of my new backrest. Much more on that later - I'm more pleased with it every time I use it - but for now I'll just say that it did mess up one thing. I've been wearing a small Camelback hydration pack when riding so's I can take a sip from time to time. Medications give me sub-terminal cotton-mouth and I really need that water. Well and good but now with the back rest I can't wear that hydration pack anymore and had to come up with something different.
That's a Nalgene hiker's water bottle carrier with a velcro flap to hold it on a belt. (they're getting hard to find now) I just fill a 16 oz Pepsi bottle with water and go for it. I do a lot of bushwhacking when I hike and it kept getting torn off my belt so I took some small gray webbing and stitched a loop from the flap, around the carrier and to the other side of the flap. It does NOT come loose now, pops off easily when desired and it sits just fine on the side of the handlebar cross brace. The tube makes it easy to take a sip and the vent holes allow pressure equalization.
With the shorty helmet I wear around town and on the back roads, it's simple - just pick the bottle up with left hand, take a sip and put it back. With my flip-up helmet I've found that if I just crack the chin bar open a bit I can still see where I'm going and it gives enuf room to reach the tube. Those with rigid full face helmets.....?? I dunno ?? Drill a hole in the front of the chin guard ?? (only ½ joking)
" do not
get in my face about safety when lifting the chin guard. I've experimented very carefully with opening the chin guard at speed and it doesn't move. If you disagree, that's fine.....don't do it. I will. Thank you............Lars.
