USB Inspection Cameras

I have had the standard plug USB inspection cameras for several years and found them invaluable when plugged into my laptop. They are really handy for looking into fairings, inside walls and into some engine areas. Being able to take photos for later consideration or sending to the owner is ideal.

This one plugs into my Galaxy S4 phone and is even handier: Android Endoscope Waterproof Snake Borescope Micro USB Inspection Video Camera | eBay

I use the Camera Fi ap for Android off the play store but haven't played with any others as yet. The color match isn't perfect but may be able to improve that with another ap.

I hear you can use them in the bedroom too.

Seems senseless to pay thousands for a colonoscopy when these things are around.

I saw an ad for those ones that connect to a cell phone the other day. Great idea!

planalp,
The edges of the instrument 'look a little, sharp', the wire does look a 'little limp'. But I do agree, the price tag just does not 'compute'!

Not sure what you mean about "sharp" and "little limp", Paul. The wire is fairly stiff and stays quite well in position when bent. The edges aren't sharp in the sense of cutting the fingers and don't seem to dig into soft materials.

If there are concerns/questions I can try to answer with regards to the ones I have. Questions/concerns may point to something I have not noticed or considered so are welcomed.

I have a couple of the larger plug USB (standard USB) which work with my laptops and this one which works with my Samsung Galaxy phone. The mirror broke through the tube at the narrowest part of the notch and the vendor is sending another one. It broke on the first install but I was turning on the threaded end rather than using the opposite end as the means of turning.

Now certain if this will be a problem in the long term but will have to see. I will order several more mirror kits (come with a wire hook and a magnet which attach to the head of the lens end. These have been useful on my bigger ones.

I use the larger ones for looking down spark plug holes which the 10 mm end allows for most bikes. The phone one has a 7 mm end which should fit almost anything. The smaller lens means the image doesn't seem quite as good but haven't played with and compared enough to form an opinion as to whether this is the case.

For sending information to a customer as to piston crown, cylinder wall, valve guide seal and such these are great because one can snap pictures and use Paint to label problems, or make video, both of which can be emailed.

Normk,
I was referring to Human Anatomy not KLR or other internal combustion engine Anatomy. Trying to be 'funny'. Guess I missed, the mark.

The price the medical profession is charging for some of todays procedures is out of reason!!!! imo.

That's even funnier. I hadn't thought about the sharp aspect in that context.

It appears that I'm the one who missed the mark. :-)

Off to bed a KLR from Belgium via Quebec is here for a visit and some emergency repairs. The oil drip is apparently from some crankcase mishap...

And if you want to really blow a health care provider's mind, ask them ahead of time what the bill is going to amount to. Odds are they can't tell you, even IF they know!!!!!!!!

True story: last week I was told "we are not allowed to discuss prices."

Sorry; let's get back to talking about KLRs.
