GOPRO alternative?

Has anyone tried a lower cost alternative to GoPro?

I want to record once in a while (doing wheelies running from cops on mY KLR ) but can think of much better ways to spend $400.
If you tried others and they were junk, let me know...

Lower cost may be a relative concept here (since it is still pricey) but the footage on my Africa report is shot with a tom tom bandit at the lowest possible resolution.

I've been extremely happy with the Garmin Virb. I paid a bit extra for the Elite mod so I can have wifi/Bluetooth and control it via my iPhone.

You can find them reasonable priced new and used.

I am using a SJ400 camera I bought on Amazon. Less than 100.00 and a lot of the gopro stuff works with it. I was amazed at the picture quality. One drawback is the memory card is limited to 32 gig, but it still records about 5 hours in HD. Battery life is about 90 minutes. There are waterproof adapters that let you hard wire power into it for continuous run. I have the wifi version, but it is pretty much useless.

try to find a used one, they are fine,
gopro session however is best cause you can rotate it within the base.

if u go gopro make sure the case of it is replaceable, they are famous with having the attachment tabs crack and break.

I bought a Contour Roam3 on Amazon for $90. Now it's $125 on there.

- 1080p, 960p, 720p HD Video Capture With Built-In Mic
- 170 Ultra-Wide Angle Lens with 270-Degree Rotation
- Camera Waterproof to 30'
- Single Shot and Interval Photo Modes
- Built-In Laser for Shot Alignment

One possible issue is it has a non-replaceable battery. Another is no wifi; just a micro SD card. It comes with 8gb micro SD card included. (with adapter) I just upgraded to a 32gb.

I mounted it to my helmet and use it to record on-road rides.
