So I was just riding along... (GoPro fail)

So riding to work this morning and I'm 15 minutes into my journey when...

I managed to whip my hand off the bar and grab it, saving it from hitting the bitumen! Lucky! Then of course I am riding along in top gear with a GoPro in one hand trying to figure out how I'm going to stop. Shoved it between my legs and pulled off the road safely.

The plastic mount (a genuine GoPro branded bar mount I'd bought the day before) had sheared right in half, probably due to the KLR's big single cylinder induced thumping vibration! It only took a mere 10km of sealed roads to destroy it.

A shame. I think that's a great filming angle.

GoPro mount

There are some knock-offs out there. Less quality than a GoPro made one?
I made my own mounts for my KLR. I just stick the GoPro base's to my mounting bars.
BTW: Probably good idea to do some kind if safety cable to the camera. ( Drill & tap for a 6:32 screw. Use an electrical crimp lug at each end of safety wire.)

It was a genuine GoPro branded mount bought from a "proper" store so not a knock-off. I've got a K-EDGE mount that I use on my pedal powered bike and it's rock solid. May adapt that one to work on the KLR instead (clamp size is wrong). Will also use a tethering cord of some description as a safety next time too!

It will get old and end up in forgotton drawer. Then on Craigslist for 1/4 of what you paid for it. Been there, done that.

These self-adhesive cable tie anchors work pretty well as a tie-off point for a safety cord. I had a Garmin eMap that was famous for jumping out of its mount. One of these and a tether saved it quit a few times.

Yep. Mine spends a lot of time shoved in the cupboard. I bought it to go on a holiday where I did some snorkeling, it was fantastic for that. Then a few other adventures and holidays. Your videos never look quite as awesome as you think they will. It's a cool little toy to have though.
