Chinese RAM Mount

So, I bought one of the Chinese knockoff RAM mounts off of Fleabay. I'm actually pretty impressed with it. I have a real RAM mount on one KLR, and I bought this knockoff for my Gen1. Total price shipped to my door from China was less than $15. It's sturdy, the x grip spring is tight, the rubber fingers seem to be the same material, the ball mounts are rubber also, its like the same thing only with an orange hub. And the orange hub includes a 5v USB charging port.

Will it last? Who knows, maybe the spring inside is cheap Chinesium and will rust out in 6 months. Maybe the plastic will fall apart after UV exposure. Maybe the USB port will fry my phone. Maybe....just maybe it will last as long as a $60 RAM. For $15, dang, I'm happy with it so far.

Not to appear self-righteous (I sometimes shop at Wal-Mart, myself!), but . . .

Word-on-the-street, China steals intellectual property from the US; violates patent and trademark laws, etc.

The so-called, "RAM," knock-off phone mount may not be patentable, because of its obvious function and construction, but . . . I'd think the "RAM" trademark would be registered.

Again, do what you gotta do . . . maybe, "GLOBALISM" in trade surfaces as the wave of the future!

(Heard tell, knock-off aftermarket Doohickeys exist . . . )

Yeah, if China can make it and ship it half way around the world with a profit for less than $20, what RAM is doing is nothing short of taking advantage of people. I don't participate as a consumer in order to fund someone else's vacation home.

Well it's really not a level playing field. I have employees so I know that in the US of A, you have to pay more than 3 bucks a day. I'm not saying I wouldn't buy that product off Ebay though. I buy some electronic doodads off there from time to time. If you made that here, you'd have to charge more for it. But I'll stop there. It's getting into a political disscussion and I don't want to prove to everyone how smart I am by having all the answers to the worlds problems. I'm already banned from .net

It's a good find. Thanks for posting the link. I'd add two rubber bands to secure the phone.

I'm not banned from .net, I'm just not allowed to post. Is there a difference?

I like to 'just hover' on a posting which I think I could have some valuable input. And make the OP and Glenn wonder about what I 'might' add.

I've been allowed back into .net by a mutual forum member, but it didn't take long for me to raise the ire of Glenn, again!
