Christmas Surprise

So the wife got me a Garmin 76 for Christmas, now i can stop trying to decide which one to get. But now I need to purchase the maps and don't know what type to get? I do about 50/50 road and trail if that matters.

That's a tough call, due to the limited storage on that model of GPS. It should have come with all the major roads shown, but I don't know if it does routing.

If nobody pipes in here, go ask at ADV in the Laying Down Tracks and I'll bet you'll get all sort of suggestions and hints. http://www.advrider.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=37

May not be a great GPS for on the bike IMO. Looks to be more marine oriented. Limited tracking, 8 mb of built in memory. Any maps you install will have to be through the computer as it has no SD slot.

From looking at the Garmin site it doesn't appear that you have a lot of choices for the maps for that unit. I would suggest going with a City Navigator product. It will show the roads and a surprising number of back roads too. It doesn't however come up as a choice for your GPS so I wonder if it's not compatible or something.

Any chance you can return this unit and swap it for something else? A GPSMAP 60Cx or CSx?
