CDI Ignition box?

I have found an ad for a 1984 KLR600 that isn't running (therefore it is CHEAP) Tha ad says it needs a CDI ignition box but otherwise is clean and low mileage (<10k) Any idea if this is a good deal or how I can tell if it needs a CDI Ignition box?

Take a spark plug with you. Unplug the wire from the plug in the engine and hook to yours. Hold plug with insulated pliers close to metal in the bike. Crank the engine. Have sparks? Yes - good cdi box. No - perhaps bad cdi box.
