KLR Maintenance

All, im looking for recommendations:
I decided to do the break-in maintenance on my bike. The only concern i have is the valve clearance check. i know my limits. Does the dealership really do this? How concerned should I be the bike has 1100 miles on it.

I ride a 2017 KLR

If I'm not mistaken, the first check is at 15,000 miles.

Yes, 15,000 miles is what the owners manual calls for. I have read here of others suggesting to adjust them much earlier than that and I kinda feel they should be also but I've also read they come adjusted from new to allow for the break-in period. I may check mine along with checking the spark plug and changing oil around 5000 miles.

I quit doing break-in maintenance valve tappet inspections on KLR650's in about 1989, unless an owner had/has Cold Start-up issues.

I'll further suggest, 1st tappet inspection and probably with a couple of valves needing adjustment by the 10,000 mile mark.

Modify at "YOUR OWN RISK"!

Still riding my 1987 KL650-A1. 85,000+ miles & counting
