Hello

Howdy Folks, I just found this great site. What set me searching was on the way to work I saw a KLR, in the parking lot at work I saw a KLR, on the way home I saw 2 more KLR's on the slab. It got me thinking about my youth and how much I loved "do it all" style, enduro motorcycles such as the Honda XL's, Yamaha DT's, Kawasaki KE's. Simple, ride anywhere, anytime. Just plain old fun. Not the fastest, not the most comfortable, but to me, the most fun. After my 30's & early to mid 40's on Harley's, it's time for me to return to the basics and just have fun. No image BS, just ride here, there, and everywhere and have fun. The KLR appears to be just the ticket. When the economy & employment get better, a KLR will become my ride. Sorry for the long post. Ride safe & have fun my brothers & sisters!!!

Rob

I bought mine for post-Apocalypse.
Welcome!
Are you leaning towards a 2007 and older, or 2008 and newer?

It does make a nice bug out bike for when SHTF.

Savage, was thinking new model, or NOS. The OCD in me sorta takes over and I wanna put all the farkles on it to suite my needs, do the proper mods myself (once I learn them), and if possible put all the miles on it myself. Ya know, I fully know this bike, where it's been, how it was ridden, etc..., a bond between it and I. Gotta keep it in great shape for the day the zombies come. We shall trample the weak and jump the dead on my trusty KLR!!!

I didn't really have a preference either once I decided on the KLR. I've had many DS's prior to getting the KLR. Most guys told me if I planned to use it for more offroad get an 07, if I plan to use it for more onroad get an 08.
I have my light KLX for offroad duty, so I was looking for a bike with more wind protection and longer road rides. I wanted to explore further from home in comfort.
So I found a good deal on an 08. In time, I've ridden more and more gravel roads (never planned to) and am impressed how good it does for a pig.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Welcome to the forum and hope you're able to acquire a KLR soon.

You saw more KLR's in one day than I've seen in the 12 years I've lived here and that's exactly 1. No wonder I get weird looks all the time and the oft-asked question, "Do you ride that enduro? What is that, a 250?"
