Well I made it

Well I have some problems with my hands and had to go to a smaller ride and came across a well cared for 2007 KLR 650. Well what a shock it was for me to find out that the bike is about 1/3 the weight of my old ride and that the insurance is about 1/3 the price from my old ride. Well its been cold/snowing around here but I feel like I'm 20 years old again(turning 50 this year God willing) when I throw a leg over it for a ride when the roads are clear. I managed to get out today and what a joy it was even though it was
-3c with a wind coming off the lake making it feel like -10c. I let my brother take it for a ride and all he did was smile each time he road past sitting down and standing up on the pegs. He loved it so much that we went over to my local Kawasaki dealer and he is now going to buy his own 2012 KLR 650.
I can't wait for the warmer weather as my brother and I ride together ever weekend and now we are going to be able to open up are riding to more places. It will be great to not pass on those dirt roads anymore and take them when ever we feel like doing it. Can't wait to see the looks on the guys/gals faces when we show up at the coffee shop Saturday mornings covered in mud and not worring about having a shinny bike. Looks like it will be a great riding season once the weather changes in a couple months. I believe I made the right choice. John

Welcome John. I'm a new member too with a 2011 KLR, I found this forum to be very informative and helpful. Ridden all different types of bikes and found the KLR to be the most fun. Enjoy riding!

Thanks guys as I just giggle when ever I get to throw a leg over it as I have been riding for over 40 years and it just brings back the fun of the ride. I'm not saying I didn't enjoy riding my other bikes its just been a while since I have had a bike of such a light weight and nimble it makes me smile(can you see me smile as I type this). I am looking forward to a great riding season. John

They are a fun bike to ride. I actually bet it seems even more so for you guys that also ride bigger, heavier bikes.

My past 3 motorcycles since 1990 have been 600/650 dual sports and, believe it or not, the only other "street" bike I've ever ridden in my life was a 750 Ninja I had to ride home from the impound lot when I was a sergeant in the Army and one of the guys who worked for me got a DWI and was in jail. Other than that, I've never even ridden any other kind of motorcycle even down the street and back to try it out.

I can imagine that after riding something larger and heavier, the KLR really seems light and nimble. Glad to hear you're enjoying the new ride and glad to hear your brother's picking one up. Be sure to post some pics of you guys at the coffee shop with muddy bikes and muddy gear.

Well the weather was a little more rider friendly this past weekend with temps being around 15c-16c but windy. I got to try a little off road with the KLR and had such a blast going along the service road beside the tracks buy my house out to the coffee shop. Didn't ride hard as I can't do that but it was still a fun day remembering what it was like when I was a kid doing this. I let my older brother take it up the service road to the coffee shop and I road his street bike on the main road, he said this is why we ride its just to much fun. He is planing on getting his within another month which will be great as we ride together all the time. Next time I will try to remember to take a camera with me as there are some neat things out there one never sees from the road, its going to be a great summer of riding and I will share the adventures with all of you. John
I forgot to say I did over 100km on Sunday and about 40 of them were off raod
