newbie to klr's

Hi all, im from ontario canada and ive been wanting to get onto a motorcycle that i can take off road and yet drive to work, and i came across the klr 650 because of my size, over 6' and over 220, price was reasonable enough to buy new so i am on this forum to meet fellow klr followers and maybe a few in the area to do some rides in ontario, as a larger rider what would you recommend for upgrades for the bike? thanks all, look forward to talking with you all

Welcome to the club man.

Being a bigger guy i'm guessing a taller windshield and a better shock would be a good place to start.

Which Windshield will depend on how you ride, I am you size and found the double bubble works for me due to my riding style, but does not work well for others. Definately due you research on those. Shocks will be ok, but make sure to set the preload to 5 on the rear. they are a want, not a need for me. If you are going to ride a lot of slab I would change out the front fender. Stock tends to act like a kite at high speeds

Welcome to the forum, I am in Michigan so we're next door neighbors, I am also about your size and find the shocks to be fine, I run 99% slab and haven't gone off road yet, so I have the biggest windshield I could find (Cee Bailey tall touring). I love it for me but wouldn't recommend it for off road. That's the beauty of our bikes, you can farkle them to suit your needs. I am sure you will love your new toy. Add your name to the KLR users map when you can.

so i went in and did my test on monday before work, and i only got 2 questions wrong, aced the signs portion, 1 wrong on the motorcycle part and 1 wrong on the general rules of the road. i was pretty happy to see it cost $17 for the written test since i will be taking a course for my m2 at Conestoga college in my city. now to see if i get a discount from my current insurance company when i complete the course.
