Little Steve 2012 Delivered

Got my Ugly New KLR delivered today, this afternoon. Why'd I do that? Am I out of my mind? This is one ugly bike. It's Black, why'd I get a black bike? Call it Mad Max. It's all I could come with and that came to me without trying. I thought Kawasaki was supposed to be that even uglier green color, but I got sucked into the black hot-in-the-sun almost as ugly why did I do that color. And it's not really a dirt bike, and not really a street bike, and I need to use an extension ladder to get up on it, and then I can't ride it 'cause I'm all up in the air, and if I throw the ladder to the side I'm really stuck. OMG, what was I thinking? Good thing I didn't take my late 1970's disco high heel riding boots to the thrift store. But getting up and off the ladder in those will be an adventure.
OK, but seriously, It is a little tall for me, but I think it will end up being really nice, just need to get used to the dirt bike geometry again. I'm just sayin howdy at this point and have been reading and studying up on the KLR for the last few weeks before I bought it. I will undoubtedly have a lot of questions and am looking forward to hearing some helpful and seriously hilarious feedback. Time for bed, been a long day and too many beers looking over the new bike and hearing the Laker game. Should probably get some insurance tomorrow so I can go for a ride befoire cooking some dinner for Mom.
Have a great day,

Try lowering links to get the bike to your level, I'm 5'=6", worked for me. I like black bikes, I ride one. I got tired of looking at faded green. Have fun!!

The shop guys suggested break it in for a while as the shocks should settle a little and then decide. Which I think I'll like sitting high for the most part. Overall it's gonna take a some miles anyway to get the feel and handling. It's a lot different than the big layed out cruiser I used to that's for sure.

As long as you're able to deal with the height, you'll find it an advantage when riding in traffic/highway situations if you do so.

I've found with the black that if you top off the gas tank and park in the hot sun for awhile, it will start sounding like an old locomotive boiler about to explode. Mine hasn't exploded yet but the other day all my dogs had their noses poked through the fence and were growling and barking at it as it sat there whistling and whining in the sun.

Welcome to the forum and enjoy your new ride!

I'm just under 5'8" and got a Corbin dual-platform seat, which made the bike much more manageable for me. Welcome aboard! Where abouts are you located?

Ridin an 08 and loving every second of it

I'm in So Cal, San Pdero on LA harbor.
Am 5'10", but shortish legs. So far not a problem I don't think, more just used to the low cruiser 1300 I have.
Got Insured and rode this morning for first time. Really fun, lacking in power, but I don't ussually drive very fast anyways. I'm looking for dirt roads soon. Got used to handling in a few blocks! Should be pretty comfortable with it by the time I take off in mid-July, but I want to go now!!!

Not sure yet mid-late July. I was hoping Utah via Eastern Sierra/White Mtns, Highway 6 thru Nevada, and then drift into Utah Canyon lands. Been all over Cal, Nevada and Southern Utah many times in various cars, trucks vans. In other words, I already know many many cool places to go, camp, cruise, hike, relax and look around. Gonna have to learn how to repair flats and best things to bring for that. I'll post tht in a new thread maybe if I can't find the info thru searching which I try to do first, hope it's not as interesting as "whitch oil" topics.
