KLR bought today

Hey guys,
I picked up a 2010 model KLR650 today......
the guy had purchased it new 12 months back and had put only 274 km on the bike!
Derestricted, aftermarket exhaust and re-jetted plus the KLR tail and tank bags!

Got it for 1800 bucks less than a newey off the showroom floor, so pretty happy with that!

Have to say I was pleasantly surprised with the power....I'd read so much lurking on the forums, as to how under powered they can be.

It's not going to beat a lot of bikes between the lights, but it had enough get up and go to make me smile... and that was going pretty easy as it isn't run in yet. Plenty left to overtake in 5th while sitting at highway speeds (100km/hr, Aussie roads).

Anyway I almost doubled the K's on the bike since lunchtime today lots of twisty's, which it handled beautifully!! I've been riding a XR 400 Motard for the last few years and I felt way more confident in the tight curves on the KLR.

I put some mud/gravel/loose surface K's under the tires in Bunyip state forest and Kurth Kiln Park (Victoria/Aus) and a fair bit of highway and town/ backroad K's in.

The KLR went really well in all situations.

With some better rubber, a taller screen and some extra protection I think I've just found my go anywhere/do anything bike!!

I have some big plans for using the KLR to get me to the trail head of some wilderness hikes in the high country as well as hopefully seeing the most northern, Southeren, Eastern and Western points in Aus.

I'm in the middle of trying to travel to the highest point in each star and territory (I've done NSW, ACT and Victoria so far) and I reckon the KLR will assist me in getting the rest of the mainland Peaks!

Anyway I'm pretty new to the world of dual sport and adventure touring but would love to meet up with some local riders and tag along on some rides if anyone is willing to let me......

My plan is to use the KLR as a learning tool in bike maintenance as well, by doing all the servicing myself if I can... That way I will hopefully be in a better position to sort out issues if something breaks down on the trail! So you'll probably hear me shouting out for help from time to time as I have not done a whole lot of this before!
