Cool Newbie From SoCal

Good day everyone. Beginning of June bought Blue 2009 KLR650 with 8800mi. End of June van pulled out of driveway in front of son on way home from work. Son crashed and totaled said Blue 2009 KLR650. Son fine, van he hit fine, Blue 2009 KLR650 went to motorcycle heaven. Beginning of July bought Black 2009 KLR650 with 500mi on it. Installed crash bars and gave to son to ride back and forth to work. Top attachment bolts for crash bars bolts rubbed holes in gas tank within a week. Kawasaki covered it under my extended warranty. Dealer was sent wrong tank. It is now close to the end of September bike is ready to pick up from dealer today. I have owned two KLR650s but have not ridden either. WTF!

Welcome! And some unsolicited advice: kick the son off the bike for a ride! ;-)

Hello and welcome to the forums . I agree with ArcticKLR, keep the bike for yourself, then you'll get to ride it!

There is not a doubt in my mind that if I had started seriously riding motorcycles (ie, owning them instead of copping rides) before I was 25, I would be dead. Sad fact. But I don't doubt it for a second. I used to make REALLY bad decisions as a matter of course.

I have girls, but they won't ride a MC with their hands on the bars until they have taken a course, read proficient motorcycling, and listened to me go on and on for hours without complaining.

Welcome aboard FastRnu2.

I solved the son bike riding problem by buying another bike for them to ride. First they had to take a Motorcycle Course, get their license and buy the gear.

I have since sold that bike as their lives have changed and bike riding just isn't in the cards. However I will always remember the fun we had going on trips together.

I live in West Covina, a small suburb east of Los Angeles. Pretty close to the dirt, snow, sand, mountains, lakes, and the beach. I have a cruiser for a commuter to Hawthorne (LAX) and the KLR for all the fun outdoorsy stuff in between.

Welcome to the site....it's a great place with very friendly folks who respect each other.....a very fresh feeling!

Can I suggest buying the young lad a rabbit's foot to add to his key chain so you can get a chance for a ride....lol.

again welcome.
