Greetings from Chicago!

Greetings!,

I recently picked up a very well maintained black 09 with 12k on the clock. It came with Cortech bags, KLR handlebar bag, Cameleon oiller, Sargent low seat, Throttlemeister cruise control, SAE and cig outlets, stock, med & high wind screens, owner's and Clymer manuals and a 6 mo powertrain warranty.

It was a one owner that was traded in on a street bike. With the farkle list above and the set of Conti Escapes on it I can tell it spent its life on the slab. I called the dealer who originally sold and had been servicing the bike and they were kind enough to fax over all the maintenance records. Although everything looked fine, I changed the oil, coolant (to G-05) and brake fluid for good measure.

I'm waiting on SW Motech crash bars and center stand, a Ricochet skid plate and of course an order from EM (Doo, etc). The rear tire is at 4mm (with ENORMOUS chicken strips) after a whopping 8,545 miles so I'm swapping it out for a Shinko 700.

Welcome...just a heads up....that skidplate will be a real bitch to install with SWMotech crash bars. I just went through servicing a bike with that combination. You really need the SWMotech skidplate to fit correctly.Sorry....

Thanks for the heads up. I can always exchange it. What's makes it such pain? Compared to my XT500's servicing the KLR is a complete bitch.

It's too wide where you need to fit it around the engine cases...the crash bars are narrower than the skidplate. If you force it each time it will fit but you will curse it every time!

Grats on the bike! I'm out in Woodridge and just got my KLR. Not a lot of places nearby to take it off road that I know of yet. Bong Rec in WI is about the closest.... If you find someplace closer, please share!

Yes Bong is the closest but I don't think it's much based on some videos I saw. There are plenty of forest preserve trails I was thinking of hitting the WI Cheese trails and maybe the TWAT if not this year next year.

Hi Willys!
I have that combination on my '11 and it fits fine. Do you by chance have a pic of where the interference is?

I've got the Ricochet skidplate on mine, with the SW Motechs - I had to loosen the skidplate just a little to knock it so it was more centered, but it fits just fine with the Motechs.

Thanks for the feedback. I read of similar positive fit experiences on the other forum. I also liked the fact that it was aluminum with no finish to come off, had better coverage/covered the drain plug and it didn't hurt that it was a whopping $8 less.

Anyone have the Motech center stand?

I saw one of the Motec skidplates pop its rivits after hitting a rock. I have the Ricochet on both My '11 and my '03. also like the better coverage underneath.
Sorry no info on the center stand.
