Cool Good to be a Board

I've lurked around this site (and several others) while I got together the cash and the courage to pitch a KLR purchase to She Who Must Be Obeyed. I've learned much, expect to learn a bunch more and appreciate everyone's generosity with their knowledge.
My 2000 KLR 650 came pretty rough (her question, exactly, was "No tell me again WHY we bought this motorcycle?". I mumbled something about killing zombies and she wandered off looking for a cork screw.
Since I'm too new to post links, I've posted some bike pictures in my profile. The GL1500's been my main two-wheel ride for many years (around 116,000 miles on it) but the KLR's coming along. I'm going for an OD and khaki color scheme and the aftermarket tank lends credibility to the military look.

I appreciate being on here, Folks. Thanks for the hospitality!

Welcome to the forum. "She Who Must Be Obeyed." Love it. You'll fit right in here. I checked out your pics. Nice! You've got the big tank, the pannier racks, hand guards. It looks in the pics like the engine is painted a sand color. Is it?

It's a nice-looking bike. Even though I ride a Gen2, I prefer the looks of the Gen1 KLR's.

Have fun working on it!

Thanks, Planalp!
10-4 on the hand guards (not a great fit, but I added them), the racks and the tank. When painting, I couldn't resist going khaki (or sand) with the engine; it wasn't that pretty to begin with, believe me :0.. I DID remember to tape the oil sight glass (but not the brake fluid reservoir, which I had to clean up later).
Seriously, everything was so rusty, it was an improvement, IMHO. I've got two Pelican cases (rough mounted) that go with the racks, but one case was sprung when I got the bike.
I ordered two more Pelican's off FleaBay and mounting kits from touratech-usa.com. When the mounting hardware arrives, I'll prep and probably paint the new Pelican 5150's, using the remaining one as a tail mount.
At least I've got one to practice on, to make sure the paint sticks .

I really appreciate the welcome, Pardner. Tks!

I like it. The gasoline sticker and the KLR on the front are nice touches. Dig the bike. And welcome.

Tks, Lockjaw. I had the sign company generate "Gasoline Only", but I mis-calculated how much room I had on that tank (to substitute for the J8/Diesel military designation). At the risk of being Captain Obvious, I went for "Gasoline".

**Incidentally, that's the only vinyl lettering AND what I've read (the gas tank causes vinyl to "bubble") is TRUE.
After I get them to generate another paint black-out stencil (like the KLR-650-A labels on the side panels) for the panniers, we'll see what paint does on that gas tank).

Again, thanks for the welcome; I appreciate it.
