First KLR

Hi everyone, my name is Paul, I live in Omaha, NE and just picked up my very first KLR. It's a 99 650. Been going through quite a few bikes lately and really bought this on whim...saw it on craigslist, always heard great things about them from friends and it seemed like a great deal. Although the bike needs quite a bit of work, it felt great on the test ride. Instantly familiar. The seller did several mods which I want to un-do. The stock headlight and fairing was removed and replaced with two projection lights. An LED light kit was installed (already removed). The stock exhaust can had holes drilled in it and makes kind of a whistling sound. Got an aftermarket paint job that's a bit loud for my taste (along with a bunch of overspray). Worst mod of all, is that it is completely missing the rear brake pedal...LOL. I didn't notice that till I got on for the test ride. Looks like the bike went down and snapped off the assembly right at the mount that bolts to the frame. It also bent the bolt going into the m/c.
Anyway, I plan of turning everything back to stock so I have quite a bit of work to do. Hope to learn quite a bit about KLRs here, maybe score some parts and if anyone is in the area meet up for a ride.
